Metadata Service

OAI-PMH

Open Archives Initiative Protocol for Metadata Harvesting (OAI-PMH) exposes metadata from JBRES to enable interoperable repository services, allowing third-party services and search engines to harvest journal and article metadata efficiently.

Protocol Overview

OAI-PMH Metadata Service

JBRES provides a robust OAI-PMH (Open Archives Initiative Protocol for Metadata Harvesting) endpoint to facilitate metadata harvesting of journal and article records. Our implementation follows the OAI-PMH version 2.0 specification and supports both public and premium metadata access tiers.

Base Identify Endpoint
Subject Classification Sets
Metadata Formats (oai_dc, oai_doaj)
Harvest Records (oai_dc)
🔗 Base OAI URL: https://oai.jelsciences.com/
All OAI-PMH requests are made against this base URL with appropriate query parameters (verb, metadataPrefix, etc.)

Two Service Versions

JBRES provides two versions of the OAI-PMH feed to serve different harvesting needs.

✅ Public (All users)

The public OAI-PMH feed is updated within 30 days of current data in the system. This version is open to everyone and does not require authentication. Ideal for general discovery, indexing services, and casual harvesters.

⭐ Premium Metadata Service

The Premium feed updates immediately as records are added, modified, or withdrawn. Access requires an active Premium Metadata Services account and authentication via api_key parameter. Premium users enjoy real-time synchronization, higher rate limits, and extended metadata fields (including oai_doaj format with full article details).

Journal Feed (OAI_DC)

Our journal-level metadata is exposed via the oai_dc (Dublin Core) format. Harvesters can retrieve journal records using the following verbs:

  • Identify – Repository information
  • ListSets – Subject classifications as OAI-PMH sets (based on our 4 groups / 34 sections)
  • ListMetadataFormats – Supported formats (oai_dc currently)
  • ListRecords / ListIdentifiers – Harvest journal records

Article-level metadata is available in oai_dc (simplified Dublin Core) and oai_doaj (extended DOAJ-specific format with rich fields). Premium users get immediate updates and enhanced fields via the oai_doaj format.
