Persistent pulmonary hypertension is a condition often diagnosed in the newborns. The blood vessels of the lungs for a newborn are generally closed moments after birth since the baby gets the necessary oxygen supply from the mother through placenta. After the baby is born, with the first breath these pulmonary vessels open up and blood circulation to the lungs starts.
Any failure to this occurrence leads to high pressure in the pulmonary vessels leading to the medical condition called Persistent pulmonary hypertension which can be fatally dangerous.
