Hemodialysis is the procedure of cleaning the blood using a dialysis machine and a special filter called an artificial kidney, or a dialyzer. This treatment is performed temporarily on patients suffering with acute kidney failure till the kidneys heal enough to perform their functions and lifelong for patients suffering with chronic kidney failure.
