  2. Tetiana V. Serebrovska

    Ukrainian

    Short Biography:

Professor of Physiology, Ph.D., Dr. Sci. Principal Researcher, Active member-academician of International Academy of Sciences, Holder of the medal of International Association of Scientists «For Honesty in Science»

Over forty years of scientific activity T. Serebrovska completed a large series of studies on the mechanisms of adaptation to hypoxia. She has organized and conducted dozens of research expeditions to Elbrus, the highlands of Tien Shan, she visited the mountain peaks of North and South America, Japan, Tibet and the Himalayas. Tatiana is one of the leading experts on the effects of intermittent hypoxia on the human body and the implementation of the method of intermittent hypoxic therapy in medical practice, particularly for the treatment of broncho-pulmonary and cardio-vascular diseases, Parkinson's disease, diabetes mellitus, male subfertility, to limit premature aging. She developed together with engineers new tools for individual hypoxic training and obtained the relevant domestic and international patents. Tetiana is a member of many scientific societies and editorial boards of different journals. She is the founder and co -President of the Polish-Ukrainian Working Group on the pathophysiology of respiration, an honorary member of the Polish Society Phthisiopulmonology. The result of scientific activity of T. Serebrovska is more than 340 scientific publications, including two monographs.

  4. Cecilia Paolini

    Chieti University

    Italy

Cecilia Paolini is a Professor in the Department of Neuroscience, Imaging and Clinical Sciences, at the University “G. d’Annunzio” of Chieti-Pescara (Italy), where she has been a faculty member since 2008. After her Bachelor of Sciences degree she went to Pennsylvania PA (USA), at UPenn School of Medicine as Visiting Researcher, where she started her career in muscle structure that continued with the PhD program and the postdoctoral fellowship. Following her return to Italy, she became faculty member and since then, her research interests lie in the area of muscle physiopathology.
The main focus of her research is to study structures involved in excitation-contraction (EC) coupling in skeletal muscle fibers using a combination of light, confocal and electron microscopy. She has characterized the phenotype of mice lacking calsequestrin type-1 (CASQ1), the main Ca2+ buffer of the sarcoplasmic reticulum (SR) and a major player in EC coupling, involving also studies on progressive myopathies in different mouse models. She has collaborated actively with other researchers all over the world, as expert of morphological aspects in skeletal muscle. Over the years, she received fundings from the Ministry of Health and from the Ministry of Education, University and Research in Italy.
