Peer Review Process

JBRES uses rigorous double-blind peer review to ensure every published article meets the highest scientific standards.

Our Review Model

JBRES employs double-blind peer review: neither the authors nor the reviewers know each other's identities. This approach eliminates biases based on reputation, institution, or nationality, ensuring that manuscripts are evaluated purely on their scientific merit.

Each manuscript is reviewed by a minimum of two independent expert reviewers selected by our editors based on their subject-matter expertise, publication record, and absence of conflicts of interest.

The Review Journey

  • Day 0
    Submission
Author submits manuscript. Automatic acknowledgement email sent with manuscript ID.
  • Days 1–2
    Editorial Office Check
Staff check completeness (all required files present, ethics statements included, format guidelines met). Scope screening by handling editor.
  • Days 2–4
    Reviewer Assignment
Handling editor identifies and invites 2–3 reviewers with relevant expertise. Reviewers have 3 days to accept or decline.
  • Days 4–18
    Peer Review
Reviewers assess the manuscript over up to 14 days. Reminders sent at day 10 and day 13 if reviews are pending.
  • Days 18–22
    Editor Decision
Handling editor reviews all reports and makes a recommendation. Editor-in-Chief issues the final decision letter.
  • After Decision
    Author Response (if revision)
Authors have 30 days (minor revision) or 60 days (major revision) to submit a revised manuscript and point-by-point response.
  • Post-Revision
    Final Decision
Revised manuscript re-reviewed (same or new reviewers). Final accept or reject decision issued.
  • After Acceptance
    Production & Publication
Professional typesetting (3–5 days). Author proofs sent. Final version published online with DOI within 24 hours of proof approval.

Possible Editorial Decisions

DecisionMeaningAuthor Action

Major RevisionSubstantial revision required — will be re-reviewedRevise and resubmit within 60 days

Appeals

Authors who believe their manuscript has been rejected unfairly may submit a formal appeal within 30 days of the decision. Appeals must:

  • Be submitted by email to [email protected] with subject line "Appeal — [Manuscript ID]"
  • Clearly state the specific grounds for appeal (e.g., factual error in reviewer assessment, conflict of interest concern)
  • Not simply request reconsideration without new scientific grounds

The Editor-in-Chief will review the appeal and respond within 14 days. The Editor-in-Chief's decision on appeals is final.
