Peer Review Process
JBRES uses rigorous double-blind peer review to ensure every published article meets the highest scientific standards.
Our Review Model
JBRES employs double-blind peer review: neither the authors nor the reviewers know each other's identities. This approach eliminates biases based on reputation, institution, or nationality, ensuring that manuscripts are evaluated purely on their scientific merit.
Each manuscript is reviewed by a minimum of two independent expert reviewers selected by our editors based on their subject-matter expertise, publication record, and absence of conflicts of interest.
The Review Journey
- Day 0SubmissionAuthor submits manuscript. Automatic acknowledgement email sent with manuscript ID.
- Days 1–2Editorial Office CheckStaff check completeness (all required files present, ethics statements included, format guidelines met). Scope screening by handling editor.
- Days 2–4Reviewer AssignmentHandling editor identifies and invites 2–3 reviewers with relevant expertise. Reviewers have 3 days to accept or decline.
- Days 4–18Peer ReviewReviewers assess the manuscript over up to 14 days. Reminders sent at day 10 and day 13 if reviews are pending.

Possible Editorial Decisions
| Decision | Meaning | Author Action |
|---|---|---|
| Accept | Manuscript accepted as-is or with minor editorial corrections | Review and approve proofs |
| Minor Revision | Small changes required — further peer review unlikely | Revise and resubmit within 30 days |
| Major Revision | Substantial revision required — will be re-reviewed | Revise and resubmit within 60 days |
| Reject | Manuscript does not meet publication standards | Authors may submit a new, substantially different manuscript |
Appeals
Authors who believe their manuscript has been rejected unfairly may submit a formal appeal within 30 days of the decision. Appeals must:
- Be submitted by email to [email protected] with subject line "Appeal — [Manuscript ID]"
- Clearly state the specific grounds for appeal (e.g., factual error in reviewer assessment, conflict of interest concern)
- Not simply request reconsideration without new scientific grounds
The Editor-in-Chief will review the appeal and respond within 14 days. The Editor-in-Chief's decision on appeals is final.
