Editor-in-Chief Guidelines
Standards and responsibilities governing final editorial decision-making at JBRES.
Authority & Responsibility
The Editor-in-Chief (EIC) holds final authority over all publication decisions at JBRES. The EIC is responsible for ensuring that every publication decision is based solely on scientific merit, ethical conduct, and alignment with the journal's aims and scope — irrespective of author identity, institutional affiliation, or commercial considerations.
Decision-Making Principles
- Final accept and reject decisions rest with the EIC, informed by handling editor recommendations and reviewer reports
- The EIC may override a handling editor recommendation only with documented scientific justification
- The EIC must recuse themselves from any manuscript with a direct conflict of interest — a designated deputy EIC handles such cases
- Decisions must not be influenced by commercial interests, advertising relationships, or relationships with specific authors or institutions
Appeals
The EIC reviews all formal appeals against rejection decisions. Appeals are considered only when authors provide specific scientific grounds — not simply disagreement with the reviewers' assessment. The EIC's decision on appeals is final.
Policy Oversight
The EIC is responsible for periodically reviewing and updating all JBRES editorial policies in consultation with the editorial board, ensuring alignment with current COPE guidelines and best practices in academic publishing.
Communication with Publisher
The EIC maintains editorial independence from the publisher (Jelsciences). The publisher handles logistics, production, and finances — editorial decisions are made exclusively by the EIC without commercial interference.
