Informed Consent Policy
How JBRES ensures research involving human participants meets informed consent standards.
Requirement for Informed Consent
For all research involving human participants, authors must confirm that all participants received adequate information about the study and gave their informed consent before enrollment. This must be stated in the Methods section of the manuscript.
Written vs. Verbal Consent
Written informed consent is the standard requirement for most research. Verbal consent may be acceptable in specific circumstances (e.g., telephone surveys, low-risk observational studies) where a waiver was granted by the relevant ethics committee. Authors must state which form of consent was obtained and cite the ethics committee approval.
Consent for Publication
Case reports, clinical photographs, video, or any material that could identify an individual patient require explicit written consent for publication. Authors must confirm this in the manuscript and must retain the signed consent document. JBRES may request to see the consent document at any time.
Consent for Children & Vulnerable Populations
Research involving children or participants who cannot provide consent themselves must include consent from a parent, guardian, or legally authorized representative. The manuscript must state who provided consent on behalf of the participant.
