What Is an APC?
An Article Processing Charge (APC) is a one-time fee paid by authors (or their institutions/funders) upon acceptance of a manuscript. The APC enables JBRES to provide immediate, permanent open access to all published articles at no cost to readers anywhere in the world.
JBRES does not charge any fee to submit a manuscript. The APC is only invoiced after a manuscript has been formally accepted for publication following peer review.

What the APC Covers
The single APC payment covers all services from acceptance to final publication:
- Professional copyediting and language polishing
- XML/HTML full-text formatting and typesetting
- PDF generation with CrossRef DOI assignment
- Permanent open access hosting on JBRES platform
- CrossRef metadata deposit and citation tracking
- Long-term archiving (LOCKSS, CLOCKSS, PKP PN)
- Indexing submission to all partner databases
Waiver & Discount Policy
Authors from low- and middle-income countries (as classified by the World Bank) may apply for a full or partial APC waiver. Waivers are granted based on country classification and are not means-tested. See our Waiver Policy for details.
Reviewer volunteers who complete 3 or more high-quality reviews per year also earn APC waiver credits. See the Reviewer Volunteer Programme.
How to Pay
Upon acceptance of your manuscript, our editorial team will issue an official APC invoice with payment instructions. We accept:
- Bank Transfer (Wire Transfer) — banking details provided on invoice
- PayPal — secure online payment link provided
- Credit / Debit Card — processed via our secure payment gateway
Payment must be received before final publication. Your article will be assigned a DOI and published in the current issue upon payment confirmation.
We will never request payment before your manuscript has been peer-reviewed and formally accepted. Requests for payment before acceptance are not from JBRES — please contact us if you receive such a request.
