Biography

Dr. Ferdinando Calabria Graduated in 2005 in Medicine and specialized in Nuclear Medicine in 2009 at the University “Tor Vergata” of Rome. As resident in Nuclear Medicine, he started to study the molecular pathways of new PET radiopharmaceuticals and their clinical applications in hematology, neuro-oncology and oncology. His specific scientific interest was aimed to deep the knowledge of the physio-pathological features of PET radiopharmaceuticals bio-distribution in order to verify further diagnostic applications. Another topic of this period the evaluation of the potential added value of rising hybrid imaging with SPECT/CT and PET/CT scanners.Since 2010 he has been leading the Department of nuclear medicine in Neuromed Research Institute in Southern Italy, where he particularly has improved his expertise on prostate cancer imaging with 18F-choline PET/CT and brain tumors imaging with 18F-DOPA PET/CT. In 2015 scientific interest veered strongly towards the imaging of the brain, working for the Italian National Research Council (CNR) on a hybrid PET/MRI 3T scanner. He started developing interest on applying 18F-FDG PET/MRI on patients with neurodegenerative diseases and 18F-FET on neuro-oncology, using a Multidisciplinary network approach.Author of over 40 scientific papers listed in PubMed, he has served as a reviewer for the major general specialized scientific journals of nuclear medicine.
